By far the most key fact about puppies and dogs that owners must understand is that dogs are pack animals and the human being must establish authority. You, the owner, are the "pack leader" and you must act the part.
Young puppies will use up a significant quantity of time trying to figure out where they fit into the chain of command. They generally do this by trying to establish their own domination. You must praise his good behavior with words and treats and disregard his poor behavior as you start on obedience training. If you follow these simple tips you will have a well-behaved doggie citizen.
